Want to start developing head movement?
Kimberly will be teaching a 4-week on-ramp into head movement series starting Thursday 4/18 at 630-8 at Paradise Tango. Practica directly afterwards at 8p.
We'll be developing the principles of head movement, which are applicable across holds, focusing particularly on head movement in open holds, as seen with Leandro and Nayara. Our concept is that this class will help develop tools that you can use to practice on your own, dance, and take classes in head movement.
This course is a good fit for both: 1) experienced dancers looking to practice and refine their head movement fundamentals (for example, if you took a private with leandro and nayara and want to remember what you learned) 2) improver zoukers who are in level 2 and want to begin their head movement journey.
Because head movement is built on a whole-body foundation, we ask that dancers with less than a year of experience in level 2 take level 2 and this class at the same time. Safe head movement is built on strong foundations, so we strongly recommend dancers continue attending level 2 to develop safely and comfortably All level 2s are encouraged to attend if they are interested!
It'll be $60, $50 for anyone with significant level 3 experience, and $40 for people currently paying for level 2.

Kimberly Loo (Honolulu Zouk)
Kimberly Loo wants us less living in our heads, more living in our hearts. Let dance be an experience of consensual touch at once nourishing and welcome. Kimberly strives to create an environment in which comfort is prioritized, and everyone feels respected within their boundaries and safe enough to experiment with moving fluidly through some of their usual inhibitions. What are we to others, but the way we make them feel? What are our bodies in this wordless dance, but transmitters of love? To dance zouk all ways, we embrace a stranger’s soul for five minutes, float alongside them with our best energy, then float off untethered to our next partner. Like two iridescent soap bubbles flying through the air together, sharing a wall, intention locked on each other, completely transparent to any who care to observe, but uncaring, giving the full spectrum of ourselves before separating.
Kimberly founded Honolulu Zouk in 2015 to host socials, technique classes, choreography training, and guest instructors in the genres of Brazilian Zouk, Heels, Contact Improvisation, and Ballet. Kimberly holds a Bachelor's degree in Dance with a Performance and Choreography emphasis, and BAs in Anthropology and English Literature, from Pomona College. Her training began on her home island of Kaua’i with Royal Ballet Academy and Drill Team Hawaii. A few of Kimberly’s most influential Brazilian zouk teachers include Ry’El (ZenZouk) & Jessica, Evelyn & Derrick, Jaime Aroxa, Lui & Larissa, The Ramalhos, and Leandro & Nayara. In a past dance life, she won two collegiate national championships in ballroom dance, and was the Hawaii state champion and a semifinalist in pro salsa on2 at the World Latin Dance Cup. Kimberly has taught and performed throughout the Hawaiian islands, Japan, Canada, Mexico, India, and the US mainland. She’s danced and taught locally with Legends in Concert, IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre, Ballet Hawaii, Salsa in Hawaii, Sininho Samba, Epica Latin Dance Co, Dancers Unlimited, Showtime Entertainment, Pretty Peacock Productions, Cherry Blossom Cabaret, Honolulu Dance Collection, The Aphrodisiacs, and Leviathan. Besides social dances and solo dances of all types, Kimberly also enjoys pole dance, aerial arts, soft acrobatics, plants, art, longboarding in Waikiki, psychology, spirituality, handstands, and hugs.
