Taylor is a Brazilian Zouk teacher and long-time dance addict currently based in Houston, TX. She sees dance as a language and strives through her teaching to help students explore ways to use this language to connect in meaningful ways. Equal parts dance nerd and hug connoisseur, Taylor is as likely to geek out about weight transfers as explore a melty connection or spark new ways to play in her classes.
Beginning her dance journey in the Ballroom world, Taylor competed for 10+ years with multiple parterns - most notably her professional partner Daniel Tran. Together, Taylor and Dan were 2x United States National Champions in the Championship Amateur division and then turned Pro to compete in the professional Rhythm division, becoming Professional Star Tour Finalists. Exploring other styles, Taylor co-directed the Stanford Salsa team and later danced with Afinkao's salsa Dance Company in Oakland. Taylor partnered with Jose Santamaria to launch and co-direct the Daniel & Desiree Sensual Bachata parter and ladies teams in San Francisco before launching her own ladies latin fusion performance team - Moxie. Taylor has been lucky to work with some incredible friends and dancers along the way and performed and taught for two years with Hector Reyes, Director of MamboNova Dance company.
When she found Brazilian Zouk, Taylor completely fell in love with the style. Taylor began teaching with Tom Lev (aka Froyo) and the two traveled the US before settling in Houston to launch the Sotaki Houston Dance School and contribute to growing the Houston Zouk community.
