Dancehall Workshop & Latin Dance (SBK) Night

On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, we have a guest instructor teaching a one hour Dancehall workshop at our Social Tuesdays: SBK Latin Dance Night.

Dancehall is a style of dance and music that branched off of reggae in 1970s Jamaica. Dancehall influences are becoming more prevalent in modern hip-hop routines and even within partner dances such as Kizomba. In the workshop, we will be learning some Old, Mid and NewSkool Dancehall Moves! Come through and learn some open level friendly, yet FIERY moves to warm up from all of this cold weather!

Quincy Pipella is a highly decorated dancer and choreographer based in Edmonton with over 25 year of dance experience. She has been choreographing professionally for dance studios, music videos, commercials, and live performances for the part 12 years. Her choreography credits include World of Dance LA, Nelly, and many more. She was technically trained in many styles of dance at Sandra Gray School Of Dance including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Pointe, Modern/Contemporary and Hip-Hop. After graduating, Quincy traveled to learn from world-renowned choreographers in LA, Seattle, New York, the UK, Vancouver and Toronto to name a few and has trained in numerous art forms with international and local pioneers. This lead her to receiving everything from various awards and scholarships in the arts to incredible opportunities in the commercial and film industry. Along with choreographing and performing, Quincy has been a full time instructor of Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Vogue Femme, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theatre at studios across Canada. These studios include Shelley’s Dance Company, The Kore Dance Studio, Amanda’s Academy of Dance, Nikos Dance Team, Sherwood Park School of Dance, Emerge Dance Academy, Step By Step, Ill FX (Calgary) Studio 604, Studio North (Vancouver) and The Underground Dance Centre (Toronto). Quincy, along side her four colleagues just recently established “Mantra Movement Co.” which is a new professional company offering different art forms of dance and competitive classes to students of all ages. Quincy cherishes every personal connection she has made with her students. She consistently looks for creative and innovative ways to challenge her students physically and mentality within every class she teaches. Overall, she wishes to share not only dance steps but also a variety of other amazing benefits dance has to offer such as mental, cultural and social that her students can use in everyday life. 

You do not need a partner for this workshop. The workshop will be friendly to all ages/levels with something for everyone. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can easily move in and flat soled shoes or sneakers for the workshop component.

After the workshop we will have a Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba (SBK) afterparty. Join us for a fun dance night at this beautiful venue! 💃🏼🌮🕺

Cost:

Cover for the Social Tuesdays event is $5 early bird (advance purchase via eventbrite) or $10 at the door (cash only, paid at the bar), which includes both the dance lesson/workshop and social dancing.

Food/Drinks:

We encourage attendees to support the venue through food/drink purchases to ensure the night remains viable. Drinks can be ordered all night, food must be ordered by 10:45 pm.
