On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, we are excited to welcome special guest instructor, Maxwell Aguilar, coming in to teach a one hour NY Salsa Shines workshop.
'Shines' are what we call patterns, steps, and footwork beyond the foundational (basic) steps in Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Cha Cha Cha, and many other partner dance styles. Mastering this type of footwork is extremely helpful in improving you as a dancer which will also translate to your partner work. Shines are a fun way to improve your musically, timing, control, foot speed, weight shifting/transfers, grounding, balance, confidence, and so much more!
NY Salsa is known for its fluidity and showcasing of the follow with a great deal of similarity to Mambo, so you will sometimes hear people refer to it as the "Modern Mambo". Tracks with a jazzy feel or a cappella salsa songs are extremely well suited to this style. This style is also perfect for blending other On2 dances like Cha Cha Cha, Son, Boogaloo, Pachanga, etc. into your shines and partner work, giving a nearly unlimited toolbox of movement vocabulary to showcase individuality.
We rotate partners throughout the dance class and the social dancing portion, so we have lots of singles that come out to the events and you do not need to come with a partner. These events are great for both meeting new people as well as a date night.
If you do come with a partner, you have the option not to rotate, though we highly recommend that you do to fully take advantage of the social aspect of the event as well as to enhance your learning experience during the dance classes.
Join us for a fun dance night at this beautiful venue! 💃🏼🌮🕺

Other Considerations
Our ability to book premium, centrally located dance venues, depends entirely on whether attendees support the venue with food/drink sales.
It is usually recommended to have a minimum $15 per person spend. We have heard from our regulars that food/drink at dance events is an important component for our Tuesday dance nights, so please help us provide you with the best experience by planning to have dinner/drinks on site.
