Social Tuesdays: Salsa Bachata Kizomba (SBK) Latin Dance Night

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, we have a guest instructor teaching a one hour Progressive Movement workshop at our Social Tuesdays: SBK Latin Dance Night.

The Progressive Movement workshop will draw on concepts used in commercial choreography within the hip hop genre to provide social dancers with additional tools to increase body control and movement fluidity.

Thomas Boivin started tap at the age of three and a few years later proceeded to hip hop. He instantly fell in love with the art of dance because it was a fun and easy way to express himself. Throughout his career he has had the opportunity to work with some of Canada’s greatest talents in the tap, hip hop, and “commercial choreography” genres. Thomas is a seasoned faculty member at many studios across Alberta and continues to travel around Canada doing guest choreography and holding workshops wherever he goes.

Thomas has been a part of many professional and semi-professional teams in his career. Some notable ones would be NXG Company, NXG Juniors, Spirit Boys, and Menergy. Currently, he is directing his own professional team, “Cool Giraffes”, and has been to many world class competitions both in and out of Canada.

For one so young, Thomas has amassed an impressive resume of accolades and has had the privilege to work with famous artists from around the globe. He is well known as both a dancer and choreographer, continuing to focus on commercial choreography while never being afraid to get out of his comfort zone by continuing to train in a variety of styles so that he can provide the highest value to his students. 

You do not need a partner for this workshop. The workshop will be friendly to all ages/levels with something for everyone. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can easily move in and flat soled shoes or sneakers for the workshop component.

After the workshop we will have a Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba (SBK) afterparty. Join us for a fun dance night at this beautiful venue! 💃🏼🌮🕺

Cover for the Social Tuesdays event is $5 early bird (advance purchase via eventbrite) or $10 at the door (cash only, paid at the bar), which includes both the dance lesson/workshop and social dancing.

Food/Drinks:

We encourage attendees to support the venue through food/drink purchases to ensure the night remains viable. Drinks can be ordered all night, food must be ordered by 10:45 pm.
