Social Tuesdays: Salsa Bachata Kizomba (SBK) Latin Dance Night

On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, we have guest instructors teaching a one hour Jive (International Latin) workshop at our SBK and Taco Tuesday event.

 

Jive is one of the five dance styles in the International Latin competitive dance curriculum and relies heavily on kicking and spinning, which makes it very similar to the East Coast Swing dance style. Jive is upbeat and energetic, originating in the early 1930s in the United States as swing music became more popular.

 

In the fall of 2010, Markian and Samantha met in the University of Alberta Dance Club and have been dancing together ever since. Despite such mundane concerns as school, work, and spinal cord injury, they have continued to work on their dancing and, under the guidance of coach Delphine Romaire, have worked to create a promising ballroom partnership: they are currently preparing for their first gold-level competition.

 

Markian and Samantha have been volunteer instructors with the University of Alberta Dance Club since 2015. They are known for their relaxed, playfully opposing teaching style and their commitment to imparting not merely technique, but also their joy of movement. They love to put on a show and are known for their quirky performances to such well-known tracks as The Pink Panther and the Star Wars Imperial March.

 

The workshop will include partner work, but you do not need to bring a partner as we will rotate partners throughout the workshop. The workshop will be friendly to all ages/levels with something for everyone. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can easily move in and clean indoor shoes (comfortable heels or flats).

 

After the workshop we will have a Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba (SBK) afterparty. Join us for a fun dance night at this beautiful venue!
