West Coast Swing takes its roots from an early version of swing called Lindy Hop, dating back as far as the 1930’s in New York. Since then, it has evolved drastically into a smooth, modern style of swing that is danced around the world, gaining popularity in North America, Europe, and Asia.
 
It is danced to a wide variety of music and continues to be stylistically influenced by other dance genres, such as hip-hop, zouk, and tango. This partnered dance has a distinct elastic look and allows for creative input from both leader and follower. The improvised nature of West Coast Swing lends itself to a heightened connection with the music.
