This is a 5-day, non-commercial, river float trip down Labyrinth Canyon in central Utah's breathtaking canyon country. It's a trip of a lifetime. It will be difficult. We will be floating all day, sound system in tow, with thousand-plus-foot sandstone cliffs towering above us. At night we'll camp on sandbars where we'll fold out the dance floor and kitchen, feast, dance, and party until the wee hours of the night in one of the most remote areas of the United States.
If you do not feel courageous, this trip is probably not for you. It's not designed to be easy or comfortable, but rather hedonistic and aspirational. It will inspire us into what we did not know we were capable of becoming as individuals, as a cohesive group, and as a community. To be clear: this is not a dance festival, this is not Recess. This is a private river trip organized by Justin Riley and with the additional river guides and material support of Recess and other trip captains.
COST
The river trip will be $315, which includes 4 days of food. There are additional options to purchase space on gear boats, life jackets, etc. during registration.
The cost to be a part of this trip will go towards paying rental and use fees for equipment to Recess and Unbound as well as other boating outfitters, paying gas for their transport to and from California, as well as food, trip toilet rental, and other necessary expenses.
The trip will be renting and bringing the following from Recess and Unbound for the group: necessary fire pans, a full cook kitchen for the group, generator, party lights, sound systems, a foam dance floor for dancing on sandbars at camp for the nights, toilets and toilet paper for the group, Angel The Recess Bus available to help with equipment and people shuttles from the takeout at Mineral Bottoms back to our cars at Ruby Ranch.

EVENT FLOW
Wednesday
Wednesday is a BIG day. We arrive at the Ruby Ranch put-in at 8pm (ish). Everyone has already had a BIGGER than anticipated adventure arriving to the middle-of-nowhere and preparing for 5 days of no-service-wilderness-dancing-adventure. We unload Angel the bus and start to stage for the adventure until Midnight as a group of heros drive the 6 hours round trip to drop the bus off at the take out. Wednesday is one of the biggest days of the trip. Be ready for it.
Thursday
Thursday we wake up at 9am, load and pack the boats, with desires to launch at noon. The adrenaline, excitement, sun, and WORK, is high until we finally push off in exacerbated excitement, at which point the chillness begins. We float 3 hours to our first camp, unload, set up the dance floor and party lights, cook dinner, and dance!
Friday
Layover Day. We hang at Camp 1 for two nights so that we can recover and drop-in from the big "push" of arriving and launch. Friday is the day where most people choose to do a big hike up canyon or to the rim on a "High" adventure with a group and then dance all night back at camp.
Saturday and Sunday,
Saturday and Sunday are similar to one another. We are in the flow of the trip. We wake, pack, breakfast, and launch by late morning. Big river mile days. Hanging and chilling. Music. Flotilla dance parties. Floating burgers anyone? Sunday has a spectacular hike option up and over the Gooseneck. Arrive at camp mid afternoon, dinner, dance and party until 2 or 3am depending on how tired or energized the group is.
Monday
Monday is the other BIG day of the trip. We wake early, a short river float day to the take-out at Mineral Bottoms, unpack the boats and hop on Angel to take us the 3 hour bus ride back to where we started at Ruby Ranch. We make a stop at the Extraterrestrial Gas Station for snacks, food, and water, and arrive back to our cars at Ruby Ranch between 10pm and midnight. Some will hit the road at this point, others will camp at Ruby Ranch and leave the next morning. Angel the Bus will stay the night and head out late afternoon on Tuesday.
IN THE KNOW
The sun will be hot! and the water cold. You will have ZERO cell service from the moment your car leaves concrete to when you arrive at the launch camp. You'll want a dry bag or two for your personal items. Make sure its a high-quality dry bag if you plan to float your gear.
Everyone will be responsible for making sure they have the following for themselves. If you do not have these, you will not be allowed to get on the river with us:
-A Type I, II, III or V PFD (Personal Flotation Device/ Life Jacket) readily available for yourself at all times.
your own flotation device or planned space for you in someone else's. This entire trip is flat water, meaning there are no rapids on this trip at all. Any flotation device that allows you to not be in the water if you choose will work. If by chance that we have a dam release flood like the first year, we will know a few days before the trip and will make needed adjustments in the adding of more robust watercraft.
3 gallons of personal drinking water.
If you want a spot on one of the 4 gear boats, we will ask for you to pay for half of the boat rental fee, and the communal trip fees will pay for the other half. A spot on a gear boat will be $70, and includes a life jacket. You will have this option when you pay.
WHAT ELSE TO PACK: sun screen, lots of it! a sun shirt and hat to cover your full arms and legs. the sun will be unescapable while on the water! a sun umbrella is also great to have. water shoes or sandals. camping gear. 3 gallons of drinking water for yourself for the 4 days we are on the water. The event is supplying cooking and cleaning water for the kitchen, but not personal drinking water. filtering water from The Green River is not an option you want to take. Bug spray. dry bags for your personal gear you don't want getting wet. dance shoes for a ridged foam dance floor. drinks, alcohol, and other fun libations. no glass containers! snacks and fun things to share with your new and old friends! your own arranged transport to and from Ruby Ranch. Downloaded maps if you want to go on hikes from camp!
If you’ve never been on a river trip, this is a great first-timer trip. Also, please post on the FB event page ask here with questions and concerns.
Dogs: well behaved dogs that are good being off-leash with people, children, and other dogs are welcome on this trip. Owners are fully responsible for the behavior of their dogs. Please email Justin if you plan to bring your furry four legged friend!
Food: All food will be provided for all registrants. All meals will be gluten free and have vegan options. During registration you will have a chance to tell us your other dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate. We suggest that the more food restrictions you have, the more "backup" personal food your bring. Cuz, why not be the one taking responsibility?
COMMUNITY GUIDELINE
Recess Revival events are by design aspirational and challenging
We have a high expectation for everyone to be responsible for themselves and the people they care about in the space. If you need support, turn to your friends and the people around you.
The event will have a loose structure to help you access support networks and resources.
If you think you might have higher needs at this event, we suggest you find an event buddy or anchor person to attend and provide physical, social and emotional support during the event.

We encourage you to choose an anchor person for yourselves in every community space – it’s always a good idea!
Every event will have an accessibility statement in the website description that will detail the physical limitations of the space. If you have specific questions, reach out to Justin Riley.
We acknowledge that our events are not accessible to all bodies.
