Weekly Classes & Practicas
Weekly Practica:
Thursday 8p: $5, free with payment of a class during that week. Come practice! Bring something that you are working on or trying to develop. Ask your partner questions like: “it feels like I’m off balance–am I pulling on your frame? Do you need a different foot position / hip placement? I don't understand what you want here, can we try different kinds of pressure?”

+ $70/6 Weeks, $20/Drop in upon availability
+If you are concurrently enrolled in a higher level and have graduated from this course [including having taken it twice], you may repeat it in the same role you originally took the course in at no charge. If you wish to take the course in a different role, we ask that you pay.
Gain confidence in your body and gain confidence in your body movements in this safe space to connect with other people. Learn this dynamic and fun social dance, make friends and bond with the other students in your course. Improve social dancing to popular music. This course will cover body awareness, how to hold your partner, leading and following, traditional zouk rhythm, and a fundamental vocabulary of zouk movements to build an understanding of the structure of the dance. Get ready to participate in Honolulu Zouk socials and dance parties!
It is expected to take this class several times–we will teach slightly different material each session, and you should be able to keep the timing and transition between movements before moving on.
Brazilian Zouk 2: 6 week series
+Tuesdays 7:30-8:50, expect to stay until 9, maybe a little practice until 9:15ish.
+6 Week Series: May 21st, 28th, June 4th, June 11th, June 18th, June 25th
+Paradise Tango - Street parking or paid parking in the building ($2 an hour after the first)
+$70 for 6 weeks, $20 drop-in with instructor approval
+Prerequisites: completion of level 1, comfort with Brazilian Zouk rhythm, connection, confidence in technique of simple turn, basic premovement, chest torsion, posture, and movement of Brazilian Zouk at different distances (wifi, hands, open, close) using fundamental vocabulary (basics, viradinha, lateral, simple turn, elastico, body rolls)
+level 2 embraces what is generally the first two years of a comprehensive Brazilian Zouk program–it develops and expands all of the fundamentals of vertical Brazilian Zouk movement and adds body movement. Expect to take 6-9 courses of level 2, about 9-18 months.
+Each 6 week series will expand and develop different aspects of Brazilian Zouk.
On-Ramp to Head Movement
+Thursdays: 630-8:00
+4 week series April 18, April 25, May 2, May 9
+Paradise Tango - Street parking or paid parking in the building ($2 an hour after the first)
+$60, $50 for anyone with significant level 3 experience, $40 for students concurrently enrolled in level 2.
+We'll be developing the principles of head movement, which are applicable across holds, focusing particularly on head movement in open holds. This class will help develop tools that you can use to practice on your own, dance, and take classes in head movement.
This course is a good fit for both: 1) experienced dancers looking to practice and refine their head movement fundamentals (for example, if you took a private with leandro and nayara and want to remember what you learned) 2) improver zoukers who are in level 2 and want to begin their head movement journey.
Because head movement is built on a whole-body foundation, we ask that dancers with less than a year of experience in level 2 take level 2 and this class at the same time. Safe head movement is built on strong foundations, so we strongly recommend dancers continue attending level 2 to develop safely and comfortably. All level 2s are encouraged to attend if they are interested!
Dancers with more head movement experience will practice a specific suite of techniques to comfortably and skillfully lead/follow in open position and from the hands distance, though Kimberly will draw upon her extensive movement background and zouk head movement background.
It'll be $60, $50 for anyone with significant level 3 experience, and $40 for people currently paying for level 2.

About Kimberly Loo (Honolulu Zouk)
Kimberly Loo wants us less living in our heads, more living in our hearts. Let dance be an experience of consensual touch at once nourishing and welcome. Kimberly strives to create an environment in which comfort is prioritized, and everyone feels respected within their boundaries and safe enough to experiment with moving fluidly through some of their usual inhibitions. What are we to others, but the way we make them feel? What are our bodies in this wordless dance, but transmitters of love? To dance zouk all ways, we embrace a stranger’s soul for five minutes, float alongside them with our best energy, then float off untethered to our next partner. Like two iridescent soap bubbles flying through the air together, sharing a wall, intention locked on each other, completely transparent to any who care to observe, but uncaring, giving the full spectrum of ourselves before separating.
Kimberly founded Honolulu Zouk in 2015 to host a dance community around socials, technique classes, choreographies, and visiting guest instructors. Kimberly holds a Bachelor's degree in Dance with a Performance and Choreography emphasis, and BAs in Anthropology and English Literature, from Pomona College. Her training began on her home island of Kaua’i with Royal Ballet Academy and Drill Team Hawaii. A few of Kimberly’s most influential Brazilian zouk teachers include Ry’El (ZenZouk) & Jessica, Evelyn & Derrick, Jaime Aroxa, Lui & Larissa, The Ramalhos, and Leandro & Nayara. In a past dance life, she’s won two collegiate national championships in ballroom dance, and was the Hawaii state champion and a World Latin Dance Cup semifinalist in salsa on2. Kimberly has taught and performed throughout the Hawaiian islands, Japan, Canada, Mexico, India, and the US mainland. She’s danced and taught locally with Legends in Concert, IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre, Ballet Hawaii, Salsa in Hawaii, Leviathan Dance, The Men’s Team, Sininho Samba, Epica Latin Dance Co, Dancers Unlimited, Showtime Entertainment, Pretty Peacock Productions, Cherry Blossom Cabaret, Honolulu Dance Collection, Polearity, and The Aphrodisiacs. Besides social dances and solo dances of all types, Kimberly also enjoys aerial arts, soft acrobatics, plants, art, longboarding Waikiki, psychology, spirituality, audiobooks, handstands, and hugs.
