DESCRIPTION:Join ATX Fusion at Balance Dance Studios (Studio 8 in the Bravo
building) on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month!\n \nWHAT IS FUSION DA
 NCING?\nIf you're unfamiliar with Fusion dancing\, it's an improvisational
environment where dancers from a variety of backgrounds come together to
co-create\, mix and match\, and find common ground between dance styles an
d forms. Fusion dancers tend to be familiar with the basics of more than o
 ne partner dance (Blues\, Tango\, West Coast Swing\, Zouk\, Lindy Hop\, et
c.).\n \nAmy Morrow will teach a Zouk themed class at 8pm\, then she and
Krystyna Lopez will step into the DJ booth with sets that will be Zouk-abl
e but also suitable for many other dance styles. Whether you're a seasoned
Zouk dancer or just Zouk-curious\, we hope you'll join us!\n \nSCHEDULE:
\n8pm: Class with Amy Morrow\n9-10pm: DJ Amy Morrow\n10-11pm: DJ Krystyna
 Lopez\n \nPRICING: $10 before 8:30pm\, $15 from 8:30pm onward. Both card
and cash are accepted at the door.\n \nHere is the class description in A
my's own words:\n\nROOTS OF ZOUK 🌱\n\nKnow this: at the heart of it\, i
f you read nothing else—we will dance for a full hour\, embodying the ri
ch history of every step. This is a living\, breathing experience\, not ju
st a lecture!\n\nI LOVE ZOUK. It has transformed my life\, and like anythi
ng I love\, I want to understand it deeply. In this session\, we will demy
stify Zouk Fusion and explore its radical roots. As Angela Davis said\, ra
dical means going to the root. What are the roots of Zouk? I’ve traveled
the world asking this question and returned with more questions than answ
ers\, but also many fascinating stories.\n\nThis hands-on session takes yo
u deep into the living history of Brazilian Zouk\, from West Africa to tod
ay’s fusion social dances. Let’s have a conversation through movement
about its evolution\, appropriation\, erasure\, and paradoxical preservati
on. Ultimately\, we’ll find a seed of truth that makes your dance more a
uthentic\, playful\, and grateful for its survival all these years and cen
 turies later.\n \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nAmy Morrow is a master teacher\,
choreographer\, and festival producer renowned for her deep exploration o
f social dance roots. As Executive Director of Fisterra\, she leads five s
ocial dance heritage projects and has produced over 100 movement workshops
worldwide. In May 2024\, she launched a groundbreaking initiative with Os
ei Bonsu\, training visually impaired students to DJ Brazilian Zouk at the
Texas School for the Blind.\n\nAmy’s journey in dance began with Lindy
Hop on her grandparents' farm and evolved as she explored diverse styles\,
from Salsa to Kizomba. Since 2023\, she has fully immersed herself in Bra
zilian Zouk and Lambada\, dancing daily in cities worldwide. Known for her
work in accessibility and inclusion\, Amy's deep study of Zouk's living h
istory earned her an invitation to present at Boston College’s Psycholog
y and the Other Conference in 2025. Her work invites others to explore dan
ce as a tool for community and transformation.
