Artist Bio
Lena is based in Vancouver BC and teaches Kizomba, Urban Kiz, Tarraxinha and Douceur out of various studios including the UBC campus.
Although Kizomba and UrbanKiz are her true dance loves, Lena loves movement, versatility and exploration in general, and so you’ll find her anywhere from ballroom to salsa to swing on any particular night.
Lena’s training began with an apprenticeship under Rina and Anjan with Nikit, who she regularly teaches with under Nikit & Lena. She believes in the importance of a Kizomba/Semba foundation in Urban Kiz, and loves all styles related to Kizomba.
When teaching, Lena likes to focus on technical understanding/breakdowns and shared teaching between the lead and follow instructors with an emphasis on the importance of both roles and on genuine human connection.
For those of you who love balanced teachers, Nikit & Lena pride themselves on speaking to both leads and follows with both of them sharing their tips and tricks to either role throughout the class, and Lena brings this balance to every collaboration she engages in.
